Youth Ministry Programs – Spring Summer 2015 Events

Youth Ministry Programs: Spring/Summer 2015 Events, Registration and Deadlines

Here in the Diocese of New Jersey, youth ministry is a vital and important piece of who we are.  Youth ministry programs are available for students in grades 6-12. These young people are co-creators and conspirators in the divine work of the church.

We have been using the Five Marks of Mission as a steadying and directing source in how we do diocesan youth ministry.

The Five Marks of Mission are:

1. To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom

2. To teach, baptize and nurture new believers

3. To respond to human need by loving service

4. To seek to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and to pursue peace and reconciliation

5. To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth

The GreenFaith Shield is an environmental merit badge for faith communities. Over the course of a month, a congregation takes steps to address one environmental issue and to encourage their members to take steps to do the same at home. Participating congregations offer prayers during worship on the specific environmental topic, provide a religious education session on the topic, take basic steps to ‘green’ the operation of their own facility, and encourage their members to take simple steps at home. GreenFaith provides resources to support all these activities, including a checklist for households. To date, GreenFaith has an Energy Shield and a Water Shield. In 2015, GreenFaith will be releasing a version of its Shield programs designed for confirmation class service projects. During the Diocese of NJ Youth Retreat in 2015, GreenFaith will share resources enabling participants to organize a team in their congregation to earn a Shield.
